Popular literary event set to be bigger and better than ever
Chorley's annual festival of words, 'Whats Your Story, Chorley?' will return March 28, offering a range of fun activities for both children and adults.
'What's Your Story, Chorley?' aims to celebrate everything there is to love about reading, literature and storytelling, bringing words to life for all ages.
The popular event will offer storytelling sessions, poetry and animation workshops, and will be delivered by authors, poets, and some well-known faces.
Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council said:“It’s a fantastic event and seems to get more popular every year. It’s great to see a range of organisations supporting the event again, delivering activities for all ages, which brings people to our town centre.”
A highlight of this year’s festival will be the attendance of Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, who will share his own real-life story on his journey from his early days in politics through to being elected into the Speaker’s chair.
A book bench trail will return, showcasing vibrant artwork created by local school-children. These brightly coloured benches are decorated by eleven schools in Chorley, with designs based on the theme of a children’s book, encouraging children to explore the story while decorating their bench.
A writing competition is taking place in schools, offering the chance for young people to write, using the theme 'New World: New Words.' Winners will be announced the week before the event, with the winning entries displayed at Chorley Library leading up to and during the event for everyone to see.
