Free entertainments and events will be taking place in both Braintree and Witham, Essex during the half term week.

Families are invited to come and see Queen Victoria, Alice in Wonderland, stilt walkers and other entertainers as they arrive in town meet with local residents.

The bronze Queen Victoria living statue will be joined by a Victorian couple as well as famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, but be sure to keep your eyes out - you never know when they will move!

The four Victorian living statues will be appearing along the High Street in Braintree between 10am and 1pm on Monday, February 14, to provide entertainment for families out shopping together.

On Tuesday, February 15, stilt walkers from Heartburn Entertainment will take on the roles of Alice in Wonderland and her companions as they roam around the Newland Shopping Centre in Witham between 10am and 1pm.

To help encourage residents to stay active and healthy, a family walk is also being organised by Community360 on Tuesday, February 15.

Walkers should meet at Braintree Library at 11am, and the hour-long walk has been designed to discover parts of Braintree that residents may not know existed whilst discovering some interesting facts along the way. This walk is wheelchair and pushchair friendly and is suitable for all ages.

For some high-octane thrills, Team Kinetix will be at the Great Square in Braintree from 11am to 2pm on Tuesday, February 15, offering youngsters the chance to try out Parkour – the practice of traversing obstacles by running, vaulting, jumping, climbing and rolling.

To help prevent theft across the town, policing teams will be offering bike security marking and providing advice on bike security in Great Square between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday, February 16.

The Smoothie Bike uses pedal power to create the perfect blend

On Thursday, February, 17,  families can use pedal power to make a delicious smoothie. The smoothie bike will be parked up in Great Square between 11am and 2pm, showing you the benefits of exercise and healthy eating.

Braintree District Council has been able to provide the street entertainment thanks to the Welcome Back Fund, a pot of £56 million provided to councils across England from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), to support the safe return to high streets and help build back better from the pandemic.
