Rachael McShane and the Cartographers coming to the Brindley

Submitted by Mark Allen

Fans of folk music are in for a treat as Rachael McShane & the Cartographers are coming to the Brindley Theatre on Friday, April 1.

Rachael McShane is an original member of folk big band Bellowhead, who she toured with internationally, recorded five studio albums and won eight BBC Folk Awards.

A talented singer, cellist, fiddle and viola player, Rachael is now working on this new solo project of traditional songs, and is playing with her new band featuring Matthew Ord (Assembly Lane) and melodeon player Julian Sutton (Kathryn Tickell, Sting).

Support on the night is from Tyneside trio Candi’s Dog, who are at the very top of their unique FolkPop game with crisp, upbeat melodies and warming harmonies generously supplying a comforting air of familiarity whilst simultaneously providing a fresh take on the Folk Pop genre.

With crystalclear tones combined with bucket loads of untouchable sincerity, the resulting mashup is akin tothe likes of Bright Eyes and Fleetwood Mac along with the lyrical qualities of Ed Sheeran and Bob Dylan.
