Rally of support to save chapel building

Around 70 people braved a cold and windy morning last Saturday to attend a rally of support in an effort to buy a village chapel.

Kingsley Holt chapel in Staffordshire closed for weekly religious services in 2019, although the meeting room remained in ongoing use.

Last August, residents were given six months to raise funds to buy it after the building was listed as an Asset of Community Value by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

A spokesman for the Kingsley Holt Centre, who wish to purchase the building for community use, said: “We had a fantastic turn out of around 70 people from across the generations on a cold morning.

“We are committed to do everything we can to ensure this important place is not lost from our community forever.

“We hope that it will become a social hub for the community, and if we are successful then the Chapel building will belong to this community legally as well as in our hearts and minds.

“The Methodist Church will soon be putting the Chapel up for sale and under Charity Law and Methodist Law and policy will obtain the best price for disposal of the property.

“Please support our plans to try to purchase it for the community.

“We cannot do it without you, and once it is gone, it is gone forever.”
