Reading Library launches eMagazine service

Reading library users can now download magazines to keep for as long as they need.

The library service in Reading, Berkshire has launched a new eMagazine service that offers members the opportunity to download from a choice of many popular titles for free.

Users now have access to 135 titles with back issues from the previous year. Unlike books and eBooks titles, the eMagazines can be borrowed indefinitely and there’s no limit to the number people can borrow.

The new service is accessed online. All that is needed to get started online is an active library card.

The library has also recently expanded its eBook range, which includes many popular adult and children’s titles and its online resources, as well as an improved catalogue/renewals service online as part of an enhanced 24/7 service provision.

Councillor Sarah Hacker, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture said: "Accessing eMagazines and eBooks online couldn’t be easier for our library members now.

"Once you have logged in you can browse, borrow and start reading straight away.

"You can keep the eMagazine indefinitely and what’s even better, there are no overdue fines to worry about!

"For anyone unsure on how to access an eMagazine or eBook, there is also help available at the library."

New self-service kiosks have also been introduced across all Reading libraries this year.

It offers a quick and efficient way of issuing, returning and paying for items. Self service now represents 65 per cent of all rentals and the library is near to issuing the 150,000th item since the new self service started in March.
