Children aged eight to 12 are being asked to help become Young Friends of Reading Museum.

A free Introductory Session for kids with adult guardians will be held on Saturday, November 25 from 10am to midday in the Victorian Gallery at Reading Museum, Blagrave Street, Reading, Berkshire.

There, visitors will be able to find all about how the Young Friends project, which gives kids a chance to glimpse ‘behind the scenes’ at one of Berkshire’s finest historical institutions, learn the skills real curators use to handle artefacts, and – if they’re not careful – have a lot of fun!

Through exciting activities, the sessions hope to teach kids that history doesn’t just come from textbooks. It’s the result of studying ancient unsolved mysteries, secret tombs, medieval battlefields and, on at least one occasion, a 109-year-old fruitcake!

After the Introductory Session, organisers intend to run a monthly club in 2018 from January to March.

If you wish to attend the introductory session email Project Organiser Samuel Spencer at friendsofRDGMus@gmail.com.
