A total of 36,447,797 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and April 19, according to NHS England data, including first and second doses, which is a rise of 300,720 on the previous day.

Over the last 24 hours, 27,713,634 first doses of a vaccine were given, a rise of 85,055 on the previous day, while 8,734,163 were a second dose, an increase of 215,665.

Regionally, NHS England data shows a total of 4,488,906 jabs were given to people in London between December 8 and April 19, including 3,415,679 first doses and 1,073,227 second doses.

This compares with 5,379,279 first doses and 1,560,930 second doses given to people in the Midlands, a total of 6,940,209.

The breakdown for the other regions is:

– East of England: 3,304,964 first doses and 1,078,004 second doses, making 4,382,968 in total
– North East and Yorkshire: 4,387,370 first and 1,433,624 second doses (5,820,994)
– North West: 3,520,645 first and 1,191,738 second doses (4,712,383)
– South East: 4,512,485 first and 1,387,839 second doses (5,900,324)
– South West: 3,039,118 first and 978,043 second doses (4,017,161)

The number of deaths registered in England and Wales was below the five-year average for the fifth consecutive week, the ONS said.

Some 9,098 deaths were registered in the week to April 9, 11.7% below the average for the corresponding period in 2015-19.

Prior to the five most recent weeks, the last time deaths had been below average was in the week to September 4 2020.
