Revamped plans for play area and social distancing measures at Pembrey Country Park visitor centre

Work is set to take place at the visitor centre of Pembrey Country Park, Camarthenshire to help with social distancing and Covid-19 safety.

Plans have been lodged by Carmarthenshire Council, which runs the park to install low level play equipment and to extend the patio area with a pathway to allow direct access from the car park.

In a report included in the plans, it states: "The building was renovated in 2019 and became the restaurant building and visitor centre, as part of the original proposal was a large play area.

"This area has not been installed due to funding and there was no need for such an elaborate playground.

"The request is to have a low level play equipment with balance beams and educational activities still low level in a different area to the initial plans."

Turning to the need to help social distancing once the attraction is give the go ahead to reopen, the report added there is to be an "extension of the original patio area."

"Due to Covid-19 this requirement has become a necessity to allow people to space out and to eat outdoor, currently the tables are on the grassed area."

The report adds: "(It will) provide a path to allow accessibility for all from the car parking areas on the other side of the road to the visitor centre and restaurant.

"All pathways and picnic area will be tarmac, low level play (equipment) will be wooden to match the design and look and feel of the restaurant."

Pembrey county councillor Cllr Cllr Hugh Shepardson has backed the plans and said in a letter to the council that he is "more than happy to support the application."

The plans will go before Carmarthenshire Council planning committee in the near future.
