Road closures for Bridgend Paper Mills expansion work

Road closures near Maesteg are needed for Bridgend Paper Mills expansion work.

Overnight resurfacing works will take place along a stretch of the A4063 near Maesteg this week as part of the WEPA Paper Mills’ ongoing £100m expansion.

The closure hours have been carefully selected to minimise disruption and inconvenience for drivers and a temporary diversion route will be in place along the A4063, B4281, A4107 and B4282.

The site is expected to produce an additional 65,000 tons of toilet paper and kitchen towels for the British market each year once the work.

The council approved the expansion plans of the construction of a new entrance into the paper mills which will safeguard 270 existing jobs and create 54 new roles. As part of the plans, WEPA is also contributing £80,000 towards new traffic calming measures on the A4063 at Coytrahen and a planned active travel route for the Llynfi Valley.

Councillor Stuart Baldwin, cabinet member for communities, said: “As a key route in and out of Maesteg, the contractors for the paper mills are making every effort to minimise disruption while the work is underway.

“We arranged for signage to be put in place and for the details to be publicised as soon as the request was received. I would like to thank drivers for their understanding and patience, and apologise for any temporary inconvenience that this may pose.

“This forms a vital part of the expansion plans for the paper mills and brings us one step closer towards the completion of a significant investment into Bridgend County Borough, one that represents a massive sign of confidence in the area as a place where business can flourish.”
