A festival has been organised as part of International Mother Language Day to celebrate three languages spoken in the borough.

The Maa Boli Festival aims to celebrate the languages of Pahari-Pothwari, Punjabi and Urdu, which are spoken by communities in Rochdale.

Held at Touchstones on Tuesday, February 21, the festival will unite people via the spoken word and will feature a delicious dinner of Asian food.

Zafar Iqbal, from Kashmiri Productions UK and is organising the event, said he is always looking for new ways to celebrate culture.

He said: “We are looking forward to bringing three different communities and languages under one roof to celebrate International Mother Language Day here in Rochdale at the Touchstones.

“This event will build bridges, entertain and unite people via spoken word followed by delicious Asian food.

“We would like to thank Touchstones, participants, volunteers and sponsors for their support towards this event.”

The event is free to attend and pre-booking is recommended via 07730004498 or email mrzi@hotmail.co.uk.

Bryan Beresford, community and inclusion manager at Touchstones, said: “I am glad we are able to host the event at Touchstones.

“We are super excited for this event for two reasons, one the nature of the event and secondly to welcome a diverse audience to Touchstones.”
