History fans can find out more about The Royal Family’s visits to Runcorn this Friday alongside a range of other topics as the district historical society hosts a free open evening.

The event is taking place at Wicksten Drive Christian Centre on Wicksten Drive close to Halton Road, with doors open at 7.15pm, when those attending can peruse displays about Runcorn’s shipbuilding heritage and The Oakdale Mersey Flat plus a section on Royal visits to Runcorn to commemorate the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to the throne 70 years ago this weekend.

A selection of Runcorn and District Historical Society’s archives will also be available to browse.

Recent visits from The Queen to the region include when she was joined by the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle as they disembarked the Royal Train at Runcorn Station to proceed to Spike Island in Widnes for the official opening of the Mersey Gateway bridge, and The Queen also visited Runcorn 50 years ago for the opening of Runcorn Shopping City.

Admission for the open evening is free, refreshments are available and all are welcome.
