Runners took a break from a race around Maidenhead to pose for selfies with the Prime Minister.

Theresa May took time out from running the country to take a role as a race marshal for the annual Easter 10 race around the town.

A number of runners gave up valuable seconds to pose for pictures with the long-serving MP, whose constituency includes areas just outside Reading, Berkshire, like Twyford and Sonning.

One runner was Royals fans Jamie Butler, who was impressed at Mrs May's dedication to events in her constituency.

He told getreading: "To be honest it was a very brief encounter, after all I was midway through the race.

"I think it’s brilliant to see her out and about in her local constituency and getting involved in a long standing community event, despite there being an awful lot on her and the country’s plate right now."

The race was won by Daniel Wallis of Belgrave Harriers, who did the ten mile course in 50 minutes and 37 seconds.

The fastest woman was Melanie Wilkins, from Winchester and District Athletics Club , who finished in 57 minutes and 52 seconds.

Other Twitter users praised the Prime Minister for braving the chilly weather to help out with the event on Good Friday (March 30).

And the Prime Minister, who has marshalled the event, a number of times previously, said it was "fun" in a tweet of her own.
