Campaigner for the heritage of Sefton, David Barton, is recommending his local authority proactively support the establishment of new individualised businesses operating during daytime hours to boost overall variety and net spending by all ages.
David is seeking to improve civic heritage grant funding across Birkdale to improve overall levelling up success over the next decade. Mr. Barton believes that a focused approach towards improving the whole of Birkdale will enable opportunities for the whole of Sefton, especially places like Bootle where support is most required.
He wishes to use civic heritage and traditional vernacular architecture as a template for mass-scale investment incentive and is highlighting the full scope of Birkdale to achieve this.
Mr. Barton says: “Birkdale Village has long been renowned for being a localised version of Coronation Street to many people with its signature buckley paving and popular long-established businesses interconnecting the local community.
“A major selling point that has prevailed over time has been the diverse selection of shops and outlets that have provided a whole assortment of items. ranging from everyday necessities to occasional purchases and the seldom sought yet invaluable services that cannot always be just found online and would otherwise warrant travelling elsewhere outside the area.
“Angela Kerr Ltd is one such prime example of a unique shop providing a distinctive service for adults covering a broad demographic range that also capitalizes well on possessing a stellar set of Old Build premises to showcase itself.
“I am therefore recommending that landlords consider providing a short list of preferred prime uses for vacant units to hasten their occupation. Sefton Council may wish to consider providing discretionary discounts to those choosing to utilize sites across two or more Sefton Constituencies, with an additional bonus for areas such as Bootle where Levelling Up efforts are being actively monitored by awarding Grant Bodies observing active grant funding applications.”
