Sefton Campaigner suggests consultation for online businesses requiring physical premises
David Barton is urging his local authority to conduct a long-spanning consultation regarding filling vacant shop units
PHYSICAL PREMISES CONSULTATION: David Barton outside Dave Pluck at 19 Liverpool Road
A campaigner for the heritage of Sefton is urging his local authority to conduct a long-spanning consultation regarding filling vacant shop units, especially the procurement of sites for online businesses that require a physical presence.
Mr Barton would expect the consultation to run online providing people the opportunity to provide a full scope analysis of the area’s needs - be these particularised to Birkdale or any other part of the Borough as put together in the Bootle Area Action Plan. This would generate a greater ratio of accurate representative data influencing local and national policy surrounding business.
David Barton is endeavouring with his overarching campaign to bring levelling up growth to the Borough. Mr Barton has been trialling Birkdale Village as a live action road map of how Levelling Up can be achieved on a local basis with the potential of his concepts being formally adopted by all tiers of Government.

The community campaigner has combined theory with practical application in the hope of delivering change beneficial to everyone in society, whilst respecting the environment. In providing solutions to common day problems, it is hoped this will bring immediate and far-ranging advantage for all irrespective of their background or views through actively engaging with people’s concerns in a meaningful way.
Mr Barton says: “In identifying which parts of the Placemaking Pie are absent and what can be done to rectify this, we can make Sefton’s vast and diverse conurbations commercially versatile for a new generation. Dave Pluck at 19 Liverpool Road is one good case study of a business or respective chain that largely operates online may wish to invest in any one town or village with the gradual expansion into quieter areas.
“Should there be sufficient effort made to acquire ample qualitative and quantitative evidence, available from such a consultation as the one I am proposing, this poses the real possibility of businesses both large and small covering other parts of the Borough with a subsequently strengthened economy.”
