Sevenoaks actress Emma Corrin has won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the Netflix hit drama, The Crown.

The 25 year-old star won best actress in a drama but because of the pandemic was unable to receive the award at a glittering Hollywood ceremony and instead accepted it online.

Her proud mum, Juliette said her daughter was not in Sevenoaks for the ceremony but in London where her agent could help her with the technical details of linking up with the ceremony.

Accepting her award remotely, Emma said she wanted to "thank Diana most of all".

"You have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure that I could ever imagine.

"On behalf of everyone who remembers you so fondly and passionately in our hearts, thank you,” she said.

She also thanked her co-star, Josh O'Conner who played Prince Charles in the hit series and won an award for best actor.

Emma grew up in Sevenoaks and the first hint of the star she was to become was when she was featured in the Chronicle age just 13 after publishing a book about her pet chinchilla.

At the time she brushed off suggestions she might want to become an author saying she wanted to be an actress not the next JK Rowling.
