An Asda shopper and former nurse is backing an Asda Dundee Kirkton staff member in raising awareness of breast cancer awareness.

Pam Woodfield is supporting Sam Will as she backs the retailer's Tickled Pink campaign, which is now in its 26th year.

Asda's Tickled Pink campaign is partnered up with Breast Cancer Now and Coppafeel! to help fun world-class research, life-changing support for breast awareness information.

Pam, who is a regular shopper at the Dundee Kirkton store, heard about the campaign and decided she wanted to support Sam’s Tickled Pink event, after her own personal experience with breast cancer.

45-year-old Pam was diagnosed with breast cancer last October after noticing a change in her left breast. She was quickly seen by her doctor, underwent a mastectomy in January and is now making an excellent recovery.

Since her surgery, Pam has called into the store most days and appreciates the warm welcome she receives from colleagues like Sam.

Pam said: "I've always supported Tickled Pink as it's such an important cause. The scale of breast cancer is enormous, every family knows someone who's been affected by it.

"The colleagues are all so friendly in Asda Dundee Kirkton and everybody's been asking about me.

"I'm in store nearly every day just to get out and because it's easier to just carry a few things at a time as I go through recovery.

“When I heard about Sam’s dedication to raising awareness about breast cancer, I immediately wanted to help. There's no point dwelling on things – you've got to be positive, and you've got to get on."

Sam has been planning a series of events for Asda’s Tickled Pink campaign to encourage women and men to check themselves for anything unusual, including visits to local schools and she is delighted to have Pam’s support.

Sam said: "Pam has continually supported any Tickled Pink fundraising in store and as a former nurse she understands how important it is.

"I was really touched when she offered to help, particularly after what she's been through recently. She's an amazing woman.

"I think it's important to start raising awareness quite young, when your body is starting to change, and Pam has offered to come to schools with me to chat to the pupils and share her experience.

"As well as visits to schools we'll also involve children who come into the store with their mums when we're running Tickled Pink events, as it's such an important message and breast cancer affects men too, so I'll always involve them too."

Sam is planning a series of fundraising and awareness-building activities in store this March showing support for Tickled Pink and coinciding with Mother's Day.

She continued: "It's a time when women are well and truly in the limelight, so when better to think about everything involved with being a mum, including everything that so many mums, daughters, sisters, aunts and grannies have been through."
