Solihull woman honouring beloved uncle with surprise fundraising fun day for Parkinson’s UK

Jacqueline Talbot, 47, from Solihull, is holding a heart-warming community event called ‘Dear John Day’ to honour her uncle, John, who lives with Parkinson's. The event, which is a surprise for John and his wife Carol, will take place on Sunday, May 26, from 12pm - 4pm at Dickens Heath Park, Solihull.

John and Carol turn 80 this year and the couple are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, so Jacqueline and her friends and family have arranged the community fun day to celebrate and fundraise for Parkinson’s UK. ‘Dear John Day’ promises an array of family-friendly activities, including a bouncy castle, giant raffle, penalty shootouts, face painting and an abundance of children's games.

Attendees can also enjoy hot food and drinks from local vendors, and they will have the chance to honour individuals facing life-changing conditions by writing a message on a huge streamer spanning the park. Jacqueline hopes the event will help to show John how much he means to the family.

She said: “John, who is fondly known as ‘Pops’, has lived with Parkinson’s for over 15 years and the condition has changed the course of his life. We wanted to arrange this event to honour his courage, tenacity and his full heart and show him just how cherished he is!

“Parkinson’s UK works hard to educate and support and while money might not alleviate Uncle John's struggles directly, it can pave the way for better futures for others living with Parkinson's. My aunt Carol has faced challenges caring for John, and this event is a testament to her resilience and the love they share.”

Kirsty Berrigan and Rebecca Landolt, heads of community fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are so grateful to Jacqueline for organising this great event for Parkinson’s UK. With more than 40 potential symptoms, Parkinson’s can devastate lives.

"We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure and current treatments are not good enough. We hope that this fundraising challenge inspires you to get involved with Parkinson’s UK.

"There are lots of ways for you to get involved and support us - from volunteering at an event, to campaigning for better services. Without the generosity of people like you, our work would not be possible.”

‘Dear John Day’ is free to enter and takes place from 12-4pm on Sunday, May 26, at Dickens Heath Park, Solihull, B90 1SB. To show your support for Jacqueline and ‘Dear John Day’, visit:
