South Ayrshire online science editor shortlisted for award
Jim Cornall, a multi award-winning editor, photographer and writer, said it was an honour to be up for the top title
The editor of a global science publication made the final six of scooping a prestigious science media award.
Jim Cornall, from Crosshill, was shortlisted for European Mediscience Media Commentator of the Year at the European Mediscience Awards 2023.
Jim, the editor-in-chief of the biotechnology publication Labiotech, was pipped to the post by Nuala Moran of BioWorld, but was delighted to be considered for the award.
He said: “It’s a huge honour to even be in the mix alongside publications like the Times.”
At Labiotech, Jim, who is originally from Yorkshire, writes, edits, and produces a weekly podcast.
He said: “I’ve always loved doing interviews, especially in music and sports, and did lots on the radio.
“It was kind of like a chat show, very conversational and hopefully fun as well as informative. So, I transferred that to creating the podcasts, and it seems to have been well received.
“I even chat about South Ayrshire in the podcast, and I’ve met people at events who listen to the podcast and say they really enjoy the tales about walking in the region, or about the weather.”
Jim also recently set up his own media company, Ayr Coastal Media, which will feature several news websites, on diverse subjects including walking, food technology, deeptech and pet food.
The company will also provide media services such as writing, editing and podcast production.
