The proceeds will be split between prize money and donation to the charity.

A ‘Big Night In’ virtual Valentine’s Day event is being held this weekend raising money for the mental health awareness charity MIND.

The evening event, hosted by Southport’s Co-op Funeral homes, is taking place on Saturday, February 13 and will consist of two interactive games, including live bingo and virtual horseracing.

Half of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go towards the prizes and the other half will be donated to the mental health charity.

Funeral Service Manager at Southport Co-op Funeral Homes, Ragan Galley said: “We are proud to support MIND and the amazing work that they do helping people with mental health problems. We hosted a virtual event back in October for MIND on World Mental Health Day and over 70 people joined, raising over £1,500, which was incredible.”

She continued: “I had such great feedback from families who loved the previous event as it was something fun that they could all do together. Due to its huge success, we thought it would be a great idea to recreate this and give people something to look forward to. As the pandemic continues and many of us our confined to our homes this Valentine’s, we wanted to do something positive and bring couples and families together in a fun, yet safe way.”

The virtual event will begin at 7:50pm starting with four bingo games and then followed with virtual horseracing with cash prizes up for grabs. Each ticket will be £20, with half of the proceeds going to MIND. Upon purchasing, each guest will receive their bingo cards from the host to print out at home. On the day of the event a YouTube link will be provided to watch the bingo and horseracing livestream, so everyone can enjoy the activities from the comfort of their own homes.

Ragan concluded: “Our Co-op Funeralcare colleagues across homes in the West Lancashire and North Cheshire division were recognised last year for their fundraising efforts, providing the highest contribution to MIND. We were so pleased, and we’re especially keen to continue raising more money for this fantastic charity. We hope as many people as possible can join the virtual event and offer their kind support.”
