A husband and wife team have opened a dog grooming parlour after the pandemic offered them the chance to work towards owning their own business.

Martha and Neil have now transformed the venue, having spent months designing and refurbishing it into a new salon that will provide their canine clients with a calming and welcoming space.

Before acquiring the premises, Martha worked at home during lockdown to gain qualifications to allow her to groom independently.

During lockdown she achieved a level three award and her new salon has offered her the chance to grow her client base to over 40 dogs.

While Martha grooms the pooches of Southport, Merseyside, Neil helps by washing the dogs and sweeping up.

Neil said: “Martha and I have a love of dogs that came about four years ago when we became owners of two Bedlington Terriers - Bruce and Herbert - and since then haven’t looked back as Martha runs a Bedlington Terrier group."

Herbert recently featured on BBC’s Pooch Perfect as a model in the semi final.

Neil and Martha are now looking forward to a bright future in the dog grooming industry.
