A opticians in Ashby transformed into a hairdressers for one night only as a team member had her head shaved, helping to raise more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Specsavers in-store trainer Nicola Lappin, decided to shave her head after a close friend was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas. Nicola wanted to show her support and pledged to Brave the Shave.

She is now sporting a close cropped hair do which was given to her by her sister-in-law, Sarah Gilbert, who works at Specsavers head office.

"I’m really overwhelmed at all of the support as I originally set a fundraising target of £500, so to more than double that is just brilliant," says Nicola.

"I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, I know the money will be put to good use in helping with the continued fight against cancer. My friend has been there for me on so many occasions so this felt like something I could do in return to show my support."

"We’re absolutely thrilled Nicola has raised so much for Macmillan,’ says Specsavers Ashby store director, Kuljinder Bains. "The whole team was behind her after she told us what she was going to do. It’s a lovely way to show how much her friend means to her."
