A hospice has opened the doors of its coffee shop to be used by the community to meet with local police officers.

Springhill Hospice's Coffee @ the Craven, on Broad Lane, will be used for residents to meet with GMP Rochdale as part of the new ‘Cuppa with a Coppa’ initiative.

It is hoped the informal setting will allow residents to voice their concerns and privately share information in a safe space, with the next event taking place on Friday, February 10.

Mayor Ali Ahmed also joined GMP Rochdale at Coffee @ the Craven in January, to show his support of the cause and encourage people to come down for a hot drink and casual chat.

Coffee @ the Craven aims to make the 'Cuppa with a Coppa' project a regular event, and hopes many more people will embrace the safe space.

Tony Hughes, Craven Shop Manager, said “We are really excited to be taking part in the 'Cuppa with a Coppa' scheme, we think it is a fantastic way to help support our local community.

“Coffee @ the Craven is a safe space for everyone, and we really hope that members of the community feel comfortable enough to pop in for a coffee and cake, and to sit down with one of the wonderful members of GMP Rochdale.”

The next 'Cuppa with a Coppa' will be held on Friday, February 10 from 12pm – 1pm at Coffee @ the Craven, 7 Broad Lane, Rochdale, OL17 4PZ.
