September saw over 100 quizzers test their knowledge and pit their wits against some of the brightest sparks in North Wales, whilst supporting St David’s Hospice.

For the first time since 2019, quizzers from across North Wales were able to meet in person for the annual North Wales Business Club ‘Test the Team’ Corporate Quiz. Previous years has seen attendees gather on their laptops and join the quiz digitally, however in September they took part at its new location in the Rydal Events Centre, Colwyn Bay.

The quiz, once again hosted by former Welsh International rugby star Rupert Moon, is now in its seventh year. This year raised an incredible £15,002 for St David’s Hospice, taking its total over the years to over £85,000 which is outstanding!

Congratulations to our quiz winners Livetech who scored an impressive score of 74, closely followed by runners up Aaronimo with 71. The innovative and interactive quiz of seven rounds was courtesy of Worldspan in partnership with North Wales Business Club and had been generously sponsored by Barclays, Pritchett & Co, Tom Owen and Son, Swayne Johnson Solicitors, Conwy Motorhome, Riverside Business Park, Cadnant Planning, Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents, Hanover Business Centres, Lanyon Bowdler, Pentraeth Group and Tina Owen Financial Planning.

Sophie Morris, managing director of Worldspan, a member of the North Wales Business Club Committee, once again produced a fantastic quiz utilising the services of her team at Worldspan.

She said: "Worldspan has been proud to support the North Wales Business Club and St David's Hospice for the last three years by utilising our team to deliver the content and production of the quiz. We are delighted that once again, we have helped secure such a fantastic total for such an important local charity.”

Jeremy Salisbury, NWBC chairman said, "North Wales Business Club are once again delighted to be involved with St David's Hospice and to assist in their fundraising for the wonderful work that they do."

Lee Moore, Barclays regional manager for Business Banking Wales added: “We’re delighted to be raising money for St David’s Hospice as part of the Corporate Quiz night and would like to thank everyone involved and everyone who supported us.

“This is our 7^th consecutive year supporting this event and It’s great to be able to help St David’s Hospice who are delivering vital support to people who need it across North Wales.”

James Wilde, Conwy area fundraiser said, "Thank you to all involved attending a really fun night. "The event is now its seventh year and continues to be enjoyable.

"Thank you to Jean and NWBC for working tirelessly to organise the night, Barclays for their consistent support and their match funding, Worldspan for managing the technological side, Rupert Moon for hosting and to all the sponsors and of course all the quizzers."

All proceeds raised from this event will help St David’s Hospice provide end of life care and support to adult patients, their families, and carers. Hospice care is free to all, and the services provided help many people in our local communities.

Festive afternoon success

Last month St David’s Hospice held their very first Festive Afternoon Tea. Guests were invited to the stunning Hafod Farm, Llanrwst to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

On arrival guests were welcomed with a glass of complimentary mulled wine. They were then given the opportunity to browse local stalls such as Coastal Craft Design, pHure Liquors, Sweet Snowdonia, Penderyn Distillery, Carol Thorne and St David’s Hospice merchandise.

The pupils of Ysgol Bro Gwydir performed some of their favourite Christmas Carols which was a lovely addition to the afternoon.

The main event of the afternoon was the afternoon tea itself. Using locally sourced ingredients, St David’s Hospice head chef, created an array of luxury savoury and sweet treats. The menu included a selection of classic sandwiches and cakes with a festive twist. The orange and cranberry scones were a firm favourite amongst guests and staff!

Penderyn Distillery made a kind donation meaning that guests were able to indulge in a delicious Hot Chocolate or Coffee made with Merlyn Welsh Cream Liqueur!

Following the afternoon tea, guests were able to win some amazing prizes in the raffle that were kindly donated which included Siop Wyn Earrings, Hafod Farm Hamper, Signature Voucher and many more.

Guests were then treated to a floral workshop with St David’s Hospice volunteer Linda Gear. Linda taught everyone how to do their very own floral basket using festive flowers and materials. The workshop was a wonderful way to end the afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Rhian Jacobs, St David’s Hospice events manger said: “What a wonderful way to start the festive period! The setting at Hafod Farm was picturesque, taking in the scenery of a wintery Conwy Valley. Thank you to all that attended on the day and for your fantastic support, kick starting your Christmas in aid of St David’s Hospice.

“I’d also like to give a big thank you to Jo and the team at Hafod Farm for allowing us to host our fundraising event at their beautiful venue!”

The afternoon was enjoyed by those who attended and was described as ‘well organised with a warm and friendly atmosphere, perfect to get into the festive spirit’.
