The council leader has thanked residents for their assistance during Storm Christoph and says teams are out and about in the borough checking for any lasting damage following the heavy rainfall.
The leader of the council has thanked residents and officers for their assistance in dealing with Storm Christoph.
Elise Wilson, leader of the council in Stockport, Greater Manchester, thanked residents for being prepared for the worst-case scenario after the region was hit with persistent rainfall.
Roads became submerged, cars left underwater and firefighters were dispatched as flooding reached parts of the town.
The A555 airport relief road was also closed due to the flooding and there was disruption to trains services caused by landslips.
Welkin Mill in Bredbury and the surrounding areas were also badly affected.
A flood alert was issued after the Middle River Mersey rose dangerously high, but Cllr Wilson now says the worst part of potential flooding is now over.
She said: “Stockport experienced persistent, heavy rainfall for 48 hours due to Storm Christoph.
"The latest update we have received has suggested that we are past the worst point of potential flooding so the major incident that was declared on Tuesday morning has now been stepped down.”
Cllr Wilson said council teams were out and about checking infrastructure in the borough for any damage.
"Our teams are now busy checking the infrastructure in the borough for signs of any damage, including footpaths, roads and structures,” she said.
“Residents should avoid paths adjacent to rivers and streams for the next few days as water levels are still high.
"I would like to thank our residents for following the advice issued by the council and being prepared in case the worst-case scenario happened.
"I would also like to thank the council’s officers and emergency services for their commitment to protecting our borough."
