A ‘Stand Up to Racism’ group have launched an online event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2021.
The ‘Stand Up to Racism’ group which covers Stockport, Greater Manchester, will livestream the event on their Facebook page on Wednesday January 27.
Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
Starting at 6pm, the event will include a line up of speakers representing the main groups who were targeted, persecuted and murdered by the Nazis.
These include trade unionists, disabled people, LGBT+ people, Roma and Gypsy people as well as the six million Jewish men, women and children.
Sue and John, speaking on behalf of the group said: “In a year when organised racist, including anti-Semitic, forces have been active across much of Europe & America, it is crucial that we commemorate those murdered in the Nazi Holocaust of 1941-45 and re-learn its lessons - to ensure the world never has to endure a repetition.
“Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, this year's commemoration will be held online and streamed live on Facebook.”
