Hello from everyone at the Southport and Formby Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre. The summer months are upon us, and this is a great time to get out and about in our local area.

The Macmillan Walking Group meet every Tuesday morning at 10.30am outside The Atkinson Centre for an hour’s walk around the town. They often take in some of the Southport beauty spots such as the King’s Gardens and Southport Promenade.

I was able to join them this week for a lovely walk along Rotten Row, where the flower beds are in full bloom. The group are also holding an additional walk, one Friday a month and details of this can be found in the Sefton Active Walks Brochure, which you can pick up in local libraries or in the Macmillan Centre.

All walks are very friendly and sociable and involve a stop for refreshments. Walks are at a moderate to slow pace and shorter alternative routes are available. They are a great way to make friends and keep yourself active.

Looking forward to September, we will be resuming our monthly Coffee and Chat afternoons at our centre on Wright Street. These are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 2pm – 3.30pm and everyone is very welcome to come along. We are hoping to have a talk on Scam Awareness from Merseyside Police at our September meeting.

September is also the month of one of the most well-known Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising events – The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. We are holding our event on Friday, 29th September, at Holy Trinity Parish Hall from 2pm -3.30pm. We will have tea and coffee of course, a cake sale, craft stalls and a raffle. All are welcome and proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you are affected by cancer and live in the Southport and Formby area, then we are here for you.

Our Centre is open for drop-in, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. We have a team of Cancer Navigators, linked to GP Surgeries, who can provide you with one-to-one support if needed and we hold a variety of activity and support groups that always welcome new members.
