Three organisations in Camberley, Surrey, have been awarded funding from the Surrey Heath Annual Lottery Grant Scheme.

A total of nearly £5,000 has been awarded from money raised in the Surrey Heath Lottery.

Awards for this year have been offered to Heatherside Community Association, the Hope Hub, and Camberley Judo Club.

Councillor Shaun Garrett, portfolio holder for support and safeguarding, said: "We’re so pleased to be able to support important local good causes through these Surrey Heath Lottery grants.

"We've already distributed a total of almost £53,000 to individual good causes who have benefited from ticket sales, and through this annual scheme we’re able to support even more local groups and charities."

£3,000 was awarded to Heatherside Community Association to contribute towards the costs in updating the lighting and power systems plus repairs.

The Hope Hub received £1,000 to help with the purchase of items required to equip the new Emergency Accommodation Service.

Camberley Judo Club got £697 to assist with the purchase of new Olympic level equipment.

A spokesperson from the Hope Hub said: “The Hope Hub benefits from a monthly donation through the Surrey Heath Lottery dependent on the number of residents who buy tickets and nominate our charity.

"This donation contributes to the delivery of our services and allows for a bit of flexibility to cater for unexpected costs (such as higher utility costs) or enable us to fund a pair of new slippers that we like to give to each tenant at the new Emergency Accommodation Service we are also now running seven days a week.

“Between April to December 2021, our day services supported 200 people and they accessed our services 7,659 times an average of 38 times each.

“Every donation received helps us meet the cost of delivering these essential services to vulnerable people, and we have remained open and accessible throughout the pandemic.  We are very grateful to every person who has purchased a lottery ticket – thank you and hope your winning numbers come up soon.”

The Annual Lottery Grant Scheme was launched in October 2020, and is open to local registered charities who provide services/support in Surrey Heath.

The Surrey Heath Lottery was introduced in July 2019, and was set-up to support local charities, raising money in the community for the community.

The scheme enables us to empower local good causes to raise funds by connecting with their supporters. We now have more than 60 local good causes registered, all raising money and working to support a variety of services in our local area.

Each lottery ticket costs £1 per week, with 60p going to good causes in Surrey Heath. 50p goes to a nominated good cause, with the remaining 10p accumulating to provide the source of this grant scheme.

Tickets can be bought on surreyheathlottery.co.uk.
