Surrey pupils encouraged to join virtual cross-country
The competition will take place between February 7 and 15
Dunottar School in Reigate have helped set up the virtual championships
A Reigate school has launched the first ever virtual cross country for students across Surrey to compete in.
Simon Manning, director of sport at Dunottar School in Reigate, Surrey teamed up with Surrey Schools' Athletics Association to set up the inaugural Secondary Schools Cross-Country Championships.
Pupils from across the county are encouraged to take part and represent their borough, with distances ranging from 3.2km for year 7s to 7.2km for those in years 12 and 13.
The event will take place between February 7 and 15 and pupils have one week to set their best time recorded on a GPS tracker.
Mr Manning said: "Whether completely new to running or irregular at these types of fixtures, this event is open to all pupils, for free.
"It’s our ambition to set an example of a safe mass participation run, encouraging pupils to maintain physical activity levels and involvement during lockdown.
"We hope to see some record numbers taking part”.
