Division 2 champions elect Groves C continue to stumble towards the finishing line as they lost their second league match in a row, plus defeat last week in the cup semi final - and all this having been unbeaten all season prior to these matches.

Two wins from Peter Cottam failed to save them from a heavy 2-8 defeat at home to rivals Groves D who now move into a challenging  fourth position in the table with matches in hand of their rivals.

Once again they were spearheaded by unbeaten duo Philip Hough and Peter Millar who obviously deserve to play at a higher level next season. Elsewhere in this division Russell Hunt led Tarporley Elec A to a fine 8-2 win over Barrow TTC and Haseeb Hanif and Simon Watts were in top form as Newton H maintained their challenge after defeating County Officers G 10-0.

Returning to the league after a number of years Dave Robson was another undefeated player as Saughall Inst accounted for Officers F. also by an 8-2 scoreline. Brownlow sportingly fight on despite not winning a match this season and all the players show improvement but were  still no match for an experienced Gt Barrow trio who hit a maximum score.

Groves B continue to move up the division 1 table and with Steve Sung again in terrific form they defeated lowly Beechwood 6-4 and in a later match returned from Tarporley Electric with a very impressive 8-2 victory, both Mike Moss and Philip Hough hitting maximums.

Jeff Sharples was another undefeated player as Newton E strengthened their third position, defeating relegation threatened County Officers B 7-3. The only Premier match saw an unexpected defeat for fourth placed Newton B who had no answer to an inspired display by Jens Andersen and reserve Mark Rhodes as they took five singles wins between them and then teamed up brilliantly to win the doubles and take the match 6-4.

Despite this win County Officers A remain bottom but have vital matches in hand plus the returning Ben Fillingham after illness.
