Newton D moved off the bottom of the Premier Division with a tremendous 8 2 victory over a County Officers team that had beaten them by a similar scoreline earlier in the season.
Captain Andy Edwards hit a hard fought maximum and new signing Peter Morley won two singles to crown a fine evening for the Mid Cheshire based squad. Newton A were hit by injuries and other commitments prior to their home clash with Saughall Deva but with Ken Connor available and backed up by John Chan and in form Danny Russell they still ran out 9-1 winners to go top of the table.
Elsewhere Newton first team faced a strong Officers A squad including Ben Fillingham and Jens Andersen but still emerged victorious 7-3 with Shaun Hall edging out the talented young student in five games.
Saughall Port hit 10 against struggling Officers B in division 1 but as this team includes two players new to league table tennis they always expected to struggle but Monday night club practices are helping them to quickly improve.
Steve Clift led leaders Groves to an impressive 9-1 away win at Tarporley Electric and Jeff Sharples and Keith Bartlett were both unbeaten as Newton E accounted for Beechwood 8-2.
Marcin Stepkowski continued his fine run of form as Newton F were held to a draw by Groves A and reserve Charlie Cooke stepped in to lead Officers C to a narrow 6-4 success over lowly Groves B.Unbeaten division 2 leaders Groves C led by Peter Cottam, outpointed a stubborn BarrowTTC 7-3 and three of the chasing teams also recorded victories.
John Andersen helped Tarporley Elec A to a 7-3 win at Officers G and Simon Watts did likewise as Newton H returned from Saughall Inst with an 8-2 scoreline. Three wins for Philip Hough however failed to save Groves D from a setback against fellow promotion chasers Gt Barrow, the villagers winning 6-4.
