The Funny Mummy comes to Phoenix Arts Centre

Alyssa Kyria is on a mission to spread laughs and truths about parenting to the world. She wants to lift the spirits of anyone else who feels like a failure for ‘doing it wrong’.

When actress and comedienne Alyssa Kyria became a mum she found it really hard. She struggled with no sleep, she felt isolated and like she was getting everything wrong.

Then one day Alyssa stepped onto the stage, and told a joke about ‘baby-led weaning’. Everyone laughed, she laughed – even though she’d been crying about her daughter ‘not eating enough’ just hours before – and The Funny Mummy was born.

This show has been designed with parents in mind: written and performed by Alyssa herself who said: “most parents want to feel like it’s not just them that has no idea what they are doing” and it isn’t! Children don’t come with a manual, we are all winging it”.

This show is for parents with children of all ages, and includes jokes and songs about everything from pregnancy to playdates, WhatsApp groups to school runs. Spoiler alert: ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ will never sound the same again!
