The Little Theatre prepares for The Addams Family

Our new website is live, our box office is open and we are just over a week away from launching our 2023/2024 season! We are incredibly fortunate to have such a high standard of young, talented people who join Southport Dramatic Club year in, year out.

As far back as 1948 we had a youth festival and our own youth section is considered to have originated in 1990 with Zigger Zagger. This year the musical they are opening with is The Addams Family which will run from Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th August at 7:30pm, with a 2:30pm matinee on Saturday 26th.

It is directed by Deborah Bloom and Jonathon Plunkett, musical director is Adam Dutch and youth theatre member Chloe Morris is choreographing. The cast of 27 includes several new members who are thrilled to be involved. There is a sense of real camaraderie in the cast and so many characters that have developed.

In the show we meet the mysterious and spooky Addams Family – Morticia (Zara Newton), Gomez (Harry Corcoran), Wednesday (Bethan Crotty), Fester (Charlie Gerring), Pugsley (Andrew Dunnett-Edge), Grandma (Hattie Gloyne), Lurch (Guy Tatler), and Cousin Itt (Katie Allen). We also meet the more mainstream Beineke family who meet because Wednesday is dating Lucas (Evan Thorpe) so he is invited to dinner with his parents Alice (Carys Gauder) and Mal (Orlando Campolucci-Bordi).

Part of the mischief that ensues is courtesy of “The Dancestors” – dancing ancestors in spirit form who have died at various times in history between 1692 and 1934 and you can read more about them in our program when you come to the show. They are played by Emilie Alty, Megan Barker, Dylan Bayliff, Susie Blake, Emily Bloom, Serafina Campolucci-Bordi, Daisy Capie-Witterick, Sawyer Duncan, Emily Garside, Lee Hayes, Kai-Enna Mook, Nathan Power, Maddie Stafford, Fleur Wigmore, Olivia Williams and Tess Wright.

The lovely and lively numbers in the show are supported by a 10 strong orchestra being conducted by Adam Dutch and there are a further five youth crewing the show as well as many other members of the club making up the creative team providing lights, sound, costume and more. So much work goes into these productions, and we love to see a packed audience enjoying it, so buy your tickets and tell all of your friends!
