Themed year to boost tourism hailed success in Ayrshire
The themed year celebrated stories inspired by, created, or written in Scotland
A new report has highlighted how Ayrshire & Arran helped contribute to the success of VisitScotland’s Year of Stories 2022.
The report showed how the themed year delivered significant tourism benefits to Scotland and its communities- including events across Ayrshire.
Across the region, a total of 14 funded and eight partner events took place to celebrate the Year of Stories 2022.
Funded events included Once Upon a Time in South Ayrshire- the year-long programme delivered by South Ayrshire Council to celebrate the storytelling heritage of the region using virtual events, self-led walking trails and storytelling sessions.
East Ayrshire was also part of a community outreach project held as part of Edinburgh International Book Festival: Scotland’s Stories Now. This mass participatory event saw people of all ages and from all backgrounds creating and telling stories about Scotland today – proving that everyone has a story to tell.
Partner events included Boswell Book Festival, Boswell Book Festival - Year of Stories, while other events took place including Auld Toon Tales (The Iris Arts Ayr) and Compose The Environment (The Cumnock Tryst).
