Three women will be raising money to help send local children to the Karate World Championships.

Friends Kylie, Kris and Deb will be walking the 81-mile Dalesway trail to support nine children from Ichiban Karate in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The Dalesway trail runs from Ilkley to Windemere.

The challenge is usually done over six days, but the trio will be completing the challenge in just three.

The money raised will used to send the children to the championships in Florida in July.

The challenge will be completed over the Easter weekend.

Kylie, head coach for the karate team, said: "This group of children are truly exceptional young people, that surprise me constantly with their commitment and the way they carry themselves.

"They’ve all been working exceptionally hard for years on their karate to get to this point.

"Covid interrupted their plans and set them back slightly, but many continued their training, using the time to broaden their skills and maintain their fitness levels.

"I hope that we’re able to help them reach their dream by successfully raising the funds needed, and not collect too many blisters along the way."

Nine young people from Ichiban Karate have been selected to represent England as part of the Dokan Karate Association team at the 2022 WUKF World Championships.

Achieving this dream comes at a cost of £1,650 per competitor, covering things such as flights and accommodation.

Unfortunately, many of the children selected will be unable to attend without a successful fundraising effort as their families simply cannot afford the additional expense.

The children currently train up to six times a week.
