THRIPLOW MUSIC ROOM: Thriplow School has opened its new music room in memory of Barbara and Malcolm Pointon
The family of a music lecturer at Homerton College who died in 2020 have opened a music room at Thriplow School.
Barbara Pointon MBE lived in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire, and her family decided to continue her and her husband, Malcolm's, legacy through a dedicated music room at the local school, where she was a founder of the school's PTA and a governor. The room will provide a place for private lessons in piano, flute, saxophone, clarinet, guitar or ukulele.
The new Barbara and Malcolm Pointon Music Room has officially opened and the Pointon family were in attendance at the opening. The school held a special assembly full of singing and recorder playing (one of Barbara’s favourite instruments!) to honour the lives of Barbara and Malcolm.

The school choir were also very privileged to have had the opportunity to perform at the Barbara Pointon Memorial Concert that was held at Homerton College at the end of September. The concert was a joyous occasion celebrating Barbara’s life.
The Thriplow School Choir performed a piece composed by Malcolm Pointon accompanied by his brother Graham in front of an audience of over 200 former Homerton students, colleagues and members of the Thriplow community. A truly special experience for the Choir.
The school is very grateful to the Pointon Family for their generous donation, and look forward to honouring Barbara and Malcolm’s legacy by giving children the opportunity to become more involved in music at the school.
