A local community theatre company will be making a debut on Chester's prestigious Storyhouse stage later this year.

Tip Top Productions, previously based at The Forum Studio Theatre, have announced a new season of shows for 2022. The lineup includes Calendar Girls The Musical.

Local performers are being offered the opportunity to audition to appear on stage at the Storyhouse in this musical version of the much-loved filmed based around a racy calendar and a group of plucky women from the WI.

The show will be taking place in July and will mark the first time the company have appeared at Chester's flagship venue.

Based on the 2003 film Calendar Girls by Tim Firth which itself is based on the true story of a group of women, all members of the Women's Institute who decide to bare all for a calendar to raise money for a local hospital where one of their husbands was treated for Leukaemia, the musical features music and lyrics by Gary Barlow.

The show's production team are currently keen to hear from potential cast members with auditions due to be held at Christleton High School near Chester on Sunday, March 6 from 10am.

Prior to the auditions taking place, an informal read through is being held at Tip Tip's rehearsal studio in Park Street, Wrexham on Monday, February 28 at 7.30pm.

Speaking about the auditions, the shows Director, Peter Swingler OBE said: "Calendar Girls the Musical" draws strongly on the idea of a supportive community and the strength of friendships between a group of women. There are many ensemble scenes for the whole cast and the actual six 'Calendar Girls'.

"The production requires a large cast including men and women playing ages 16 to 80s (our cast will be 18+) and so we are keen to welcome anyone interested in auditioning to an informal read through of the script at our rehearsal studio in Wrexham prior to the auditions taking place in Chester.

"It really will be a great show to be involved with as we take to the stage at Storyhouse for the first time."
