Tonbridge Lions Club is hoping that they will be able to carry on a tradition this year which started in 1952 by rolling out their barrel organ again for their Christmas collection.

The annual event takes place to raise money for those in need in the community. This year any donations received will go towards festive hampers for deserving individuals and families in the Tonbridge area.

Dependent on the Covid-19 restrictions and with safety measures in place the club hope to have the barrel organ located in various locations around the High Street starting on Friday, December 11 at the rear of the Iceland store. For the first time they hope to be using contact less donation payments as well the usual collection boxes.

Mike Fenn, this year’s Chairman of the Barrel Organ Committee said: “We very much hope that we will be able to roll out the barrel organ this year despite the Covid restrictions.

" A familiar site at Christmas since 1952 we are keeping our fingers crossed that we are able to bring some Christmas cheer to the people of Tonbridge and help those less fortunate than ourselves”
