After a two year absence due to covid restrictions, LAMPS (Local Amateur Musical Players) are returning to the stage in a production of The Who's rock opera Tommy. Performances will be from March 30 to April 2 at the EM Forster Theatre in Tonbridge
It was in January 2020 when LAMPS started rehearsals, but unfortunately, just two weeks before the production was due to hit the stage, covid-19 cancelled all theatre performances. Exactly two years after its original scheduled performances, LAMPS are now able to bring their production to the stage.
Tommy, first performed by The Who in 1969, was a smash hit on both sides of the Atlantic and is a powerful tale of a deaf, dumb and blind pinball player who becomes an international messiah. The 60’s rock opera was translated to the stage by theatrical wizard, Des McAnuff, into a high energy, one of a kind theatrical event and includes hit songs, Pinball Wizard and See Me, Touch Me.
LAMPS performances of Tommy will include a live rock band on stage and £1 from all tickets sales will go to Chailey Heritage Foundation which provides education and care services and is one of the UK’s leading centres for children and young people with complex neuro disabilities.
There will also be British Sign Language signed performances on Wednesday night and at the Saturday matinee.
Tickets are available from the website, lamps.org.uk or direct from the theatre at emftheatre.com Use promo code TOMMY13 to receive a ten per cent discount on all tickets.
LAMPS would like to thank their sponsor The Wine Rooms at The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, for their support.
