Towy Valley twins selected for Wales under-13 hockey team

Twin sisters from Llanarthne in the Towy Valley have been selected to be part of the South Wales under-13 national hockey team.

It means the pair, Darcey and Honor Terry, aged 13, are now on a pathway towards hopefully playing for the senior Wales squad on the international stage in a few years.

They currently play for Swansea hockey club under-14 and under-16s and also Llandovery College, where they are pupils.

Darcey plays on right wing position, wearing the number 10 shirt, while Honor is number five in defence.

With Llandovery College already renowned for its sporting alumni, particularly in international rugby with past pupils including Alun Wyn Jones and George North, the hockey twins are hoping to make their mark in sport over coming years.

Their father Sarn, said the selection for the Welsh squad was exciting, adding: "We have been overwhelmed by the local support from both the communities of Llanarthne and Porthyryd, everyone is behind them and wishing them well with their Wales team.

"Sponsorship interest is coming in, but it has been just lovely for a local rural community such as ours to show such an interest.

"Obviously this is the first steps to a full international pathway we hope, it's a case of 'watch this space'."

"They are training every week and have warm up games every Sunday, getting ready for a big tournament in July at Nottingham Hockey Centre, competing against teams from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"The team they are in now is a pathway to the senior Wales team."

"There is no under-16 Wales, they will hopefully play for the Carmarthenshire county squad, which is coming back, and they will then go on to play for Wales under 18 and then into the seniors, Wales has their claws in them now so to speak, so they will be ones to watch."
