South Ayrshire roundabout sculpture given new lease of life
Corrective works were carried out on the iconic structure, leaving it looking as good as new
A monument which reflects Girvan’s maritime heritage and welcomes people to the town has been given a facelift.
The sculpture at Shalloch Park roundabout was in dire need of some TLC, as the lettering on the boat shaped rock structure was faded away and barely legible.
But thanks to a resident, who raised the issue at a Girvan Town Team meeting, and the help of South Ayrshire Council, works have now been completed, leaving the structure proudly displaying its ‘Home of Ailsa Craig’ status.

Roddy MacDonald, the Girvan Town Team Coordinator, said: “The suggestion to improve the look of the sculpture was raised by a member of the public at the meeting and within 24 hours the process was well underway to improve the monument.
“This just shows how effective the Town Team can be in taking forward suggestions from the public.”
