Urgent appeal for help from Parkinson’s Skipton and District support group

Parkinson’s UK’s Skipton and District support group, which offers information, advice, help and friendship to local people affected by Parkinson’s, has issued an urgent appeal for a volunteer Support Group Co-ordinator. The group could face closure in the future if a volunteer doesn’t come forward.
The group, which has been running for 31 years, provides information, support, friendship, and social activities for local people affected by the condition. However, with volunteer numbers in decline, the group could be forced to shut if this vital role isn’t filled, leaving the Yorkshire Dales area without a dedicated support group.
Already comprising an existing team of enthusiastic volunteers, the group is appealing for a new Support Group Co-ordinator to assist with the smooth running of the group. This is a flexible role that has a big impact on people’s lives, helping to ensure people with Parkinson’s can access meetings and activities that make a real difference to them.

“Activities provided by local groups are a lifeline for people in the local area who are living with Parkinson’s, but unless new volunteers step forward people could be left without the support they need.
“If you can spare a few hours a month we’d love to welcome you to volunteer alongside the amazing people who are part of the group — because with your support we really can change lives."
Around 153,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, including more than 12,000 in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The Skipton support group meets on the third Thursday of each month at The Hub in Skipton Town Hall from 2pm-3.30pm.
