Virginia Crosbie MP conducts first TV interview in Welsh

Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie vowed to learn Welsh when was first elected in 2019.
And this week, Virginia filmed her first interview speaking Welsh this week when she appeared on S4C’s Y Byd yn ei Le gyda Guto Harri.
She has been taking lessons, gone on a residential course and last summer passed the Entry Level Welsh for Adults speaking test with a score of 95%.
In the interview Virginia talked about events at Downing Street, The Ukraine, the pandemic and the economy. She also spoke of her local priorities of Wylfa Newydd and a freeport to bring jobs and investment to the island.
Virginia said: “I was pretty nervous doing the interview but I think I am now just about at the point where I can do it with preparation and a kind interviewer like Guto to help me.
“I remain far from being able to really talk at length on complicated subjects but I do feel I am keeping my promise to learn the language and I'm getting there slowly.
“My dad grew up speaking Welsh at school in Monmouth and I’m proud to be carrying on that Welsh family tradition.
“I hope my journey encourages others to learn Welsh too. It takes perseverance - something I have bags of!
"I’m determined to represent my Ynys Môn community by learning the native tongue and keeping our proud culture alive.”
