Visitors invited to explore the Vale of Glamorgan

Visitors are invited to join a series of guided walks, each weekend during the month of May exploring the Vale of Glamorgan.

Led by TV presenter Chris Jones and organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, visitors will be treated to local stories and folklore brought to life through characters that will appear throughout each of the walks, as each of the ten Vale Trails are explored.

The ten Vale Trails feature five coastal walks taking in the glorious coastline of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast in the West through to Penarth and its majestic Pier to the East. The five inland walks explore the Vale’s rich countryside and take in many of our great places to visit.

Along the route, visitors may bump into a Roman Nobleman, Benedictine Monk, be greeted by Smugglers and Pirates and even spot the White Lady of Dunraven as they pass through the gardens.

Barry Male Voice Choir will feature to provide some very welcomed musical entertainment on one of the walks, while historical figures from the Vale’s past will bring stories to life, including Iolo Morgannwg, Saint Cadoc and even Radio transmission inventor Marconi.

Welsh Childrens TV presenter Heini will also join one walk to get walkers warmed up before they head off.

Chris Jones, who is a regular presenter on S4C, is delighted to guide each of the walks as he shares his passion for Walking in the Vale with visitors. Working with the Vale of Glamorgan Tourism & Events team this is the latest in a calendar of events by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Nia Hollins, principle tourism and marketing officer said: “This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Wales Coast Path, and the Vale Trails #10Days in May event aims to shine a light on the stretch of Wales Coast Path that forms the lower border of our beautiful County.

“The calendar of walks prepared for our visitors to enjoy will bring to life the many stories from history and showcase the Vale as a beautiful walking destination that easily rivals some of the heavier trodden paths of other popular destinations in Wales.”

In addition to the calendar of walks, a series of 10 Vale Trail videos are also being produced to inspire visitors to make the Vale their walking destination of choice. These will be shared through destination website www.visitthevale.com and through social media channels soon.

Walks are limited in numbers and those that register to attend will be provided with a meeting point for each walk.
