Watch Marcus Rashford's video message to Paignton 'inspiration' Sam
“Sam is a credit to his club, family and his manager and a great example to others"
‘INSPIRATIONAL’ Paignton footballer Sam Graves, who turns out for the Blues Southwest under-12s, has been handed a chance to represent his country.
The youngster was nominated by England team partners the Nationwide Building Society to be the virtual mascot for the team’s three recent internationals.
Nationwide chose Sam for the work he has been doing in the local community.
As part of the prize, he gets a brand new full England kit, tickets to a future game at Wembley, the chance to ask questions to England players and a personalised video message from Manchester United and England’s Marcus Rashford.
Sam said: “My favourite current England player is Marcus Rashford and I am a Manchester United fan. My favourite moment as an England fan was our victory over Panama in the last World Cup.
“I am a striker or centre forward for my local team and winning the Under 11’s Shield at St George’s Park with my team is my personal highlight so far.
“To get the chance to ask questions to England players is something I will never forget.”
Chris Hull, ambassador for Nationwide’s Respect Campaign, added: “As well as keeping up with his football training and fitness during lockdown, Sam has come up with his own concept to raise money for another child of the same age who sadly is suffering with a number of health conditions which have kept him in and out of hospital for his entire life.
“Sam is a credit to his club, family and his manager and a great example to others.
“It is quite inspirational from an 11-year-old boy and we are wishing him all the best with his fundraising and brilliant community efforts.”
