'We will never be the same without you': A daughters' heartbreaking poem to her mother she lost to Covid-19
"Our happiness vanished. The world has stopped spinning and the sun hasn’t risen since."
As we look forward to the easing of restrictions and an end to the pandemic, we should take a moment to remember those who have been lost over the past year.
Chelmsford Mosque has shared a poem written by one of its community members who lost their mother to Covid-19 in January.
The heartbreaking poem of a daughter's message to her lost mother shows the rifts left in people's lives where loved ones used to be.
The following poem is written by Farhana Hussain Chowdhury.

Covid 19.... we spoke on it at length.
The deaths and destruction it was causing around the globe
You kept us safe, with your words of comfort and strength. Advising us to stay safe, You gave us hope
Just like you always did from our childhood.
Our source of warmth and love.
Selfless mummy. Our protective glove
We grew up without dad, but we never felt it because of you mum
You persevered so we could get an education, sacrificed your happiness, to make dad proud. A widow raising 6 children all on your own. Our delicate sunshine under a blanket of dark clouds.
You taught us compassion and patience needed to raise our younger brother
His Down’s syndrome didn’t stop you from teaching him the right values of our culture and religion. Rooted deep within all 6 of us
You were our inspiration. The world spun because of you mum. You were the diamond that shone amongst God’s creation.
Every hurdle we faced, you got us through it, our school years, university life, careers and marriage
Our new chapters as parents made us realise the sacrifices you made when we were children. How tough the challenges must have been for you to raise our little brother with his condition and the remaining 5 of us. You were the epitome of beauty and elegance. You radiated positivity, patience and love. Teaching us all things of relevance.
Our family get togethers were special mum. You created the fondest memories. You lived for your grandchildren and they lived for you
One of a kind, a mother in a million. That’s what you were. You battled cancer with resilience. Just like you did with every challenge you faced. Life was hard but you never complained
How could this deadly virus consume our pretty resilient mother. How could it destroy your strength and make you frail, just like it did our brother. How did we not protect you in the end? Why did it arrive on our doorstep and destroy our souls. Our happiness vanished. The world has stopped spinning and the sun hasn’t risen since. Our memories are clouded with grief and we are empty. You’re not there to wipe our tears anymore. You left swiftly, sacrificing your life to get our little brother recovered instead, tending to him night and day. Your fight was over once he got better but you became the prey.
Soon after you left we all suffered the same fate, a deadly virus that erupted through each household ravishing our bodies. We became the new bait. But we survived and you didn’t. The guilt is insurmountable.
Sorry we failed you our beloved mum. Sorry we couldn’t help you despite the warriors we’d become.
We will never be the same not without you mum
