Widnes residents encouraged to get active with new initiative

Cycling can decrease stress levels

Submitted by Mark Allen

A new scheme has been set up to encourage local people to live a healthier lifestyle.

Wheels for All Widnes holds weekly activities and provides residents with a range of inclusive bikes for all ages and abilities.

The group meets every Wednesday lunchtime at Victoria Park at the Fairfield Road entrance in Widnes, Cheshire.

Helmets will be provided and the first session is free.

Wheels for All Widnes sessions take place between 12pm and 3pm.

Councillor Marie Wright, Halton Borough Council's executive board member for health and wellbeing, said: "Why not go with a friend or colleague in your lunchbreak?

"They can jog or walk by your side."

According to research from the UK Active report 2022, people who are regularly active reduce their risk of dying from infectious diseases, such as Covid-19, by 37%.

According to the NHS website, exercising just once or twice a week can reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke.

Speak to your GP first if you have not exercised for some time, or if you have medical conditions or concerns.

Make sure your activity and its intensity are appropriate for your fitness.
