YMCA Burton Foodback appeals to community to meet demand
YMCA Burton Foodbank in desperate need. Can you help?
YMCA Burton has operated a Foodbank in Burton-on-Trent for over 20 years and unfortunately2024 is turning out to be another record-breaking year as they have distributed over 1,300 emergency food parcels to date. The cost of food prices is increasing, mortgage interest rate changes, money increasingly not covering monthly outgoings and also unemployment are just some of the reasons people are accessing the foodbank currently.
The demand is so high, YMCA Burton have had to temporarily limit the volume of food in the bags to ensure there is enough food for everyone who is seeking help. Unfortunately, this vital service can now only be accessed up to four times in a six-month period.

Fundraising and Partnerships manager Paula Senior said; “Already this year we have seen the Foodbank use rise dramatically and we can’t see it changing any time soon. We traditionally see a rise in usage during the school half term breaks and this Easter has been no different with over 328 emergency bags of food being given out during the half term period. If you are able to help with either food or monetary donations, it would be gratefully received. We hope this will only be a temporary measure.”
They are currently most in need of: Long-life milk, Cereal, Tinned soup, Baked beans, Tinned vegetables, Pasta, Tea-bags and sugar.
If you are able to donate any of these products they can be dropped off at the YMCA Foodbank, inside the Reconnect Centre in Burton Town Centre, opposite Asda on the roundabout.
Alternatively, if you would like to donate a one-off amount, or make a monthly pledge, please email YMCA on fundraising@burtonymca.org or visit their website https://burtonymca.org/fundraising/
